A Proud Family Legacy in Dealerships

Tom’s Grandfather Irving Kline, founded Kline Chevrolet almost 100 years ago, in 1926. The business was originally founded on the values of courtesy and fairness.

Since then, the Kline family has been a prominent part of the Virginia automotive dealership industry. Tom’s uncle and father joined Irving, and worked in the family business. In 1964, Tom’s father, Richard, purchased Clark Chevrolet, which became RK Chevrolet in Virginia Beach.

Tom’s brother Bob joined the family business, followed by Tom… and they gradually became part owners. Over the following decades, they worked with their father to build the largest Chevrolet dealership in Virginia. During that time, the family added additional franchises to the dealership, including:

Buick • Daihatsu • Kawasaki • Lotus • Peugeot • Piaggio • Subaru • Toyota • Vespa • Volkswagen • Volvo

This broad brand exposure gives Tom a rare, firsthand understanding of operational risk, compliance challenges, and customer and employee disputes across a wide range of dealership models.

Tom has also distilled these lessons into his book, Tuck the Octopus: A Better Vantage Point for Dealership Risk and Compliance, which outlines practical strategies dealership owners can apply immediately. Comprehensive Experience in Every Department

Like many people beginning a career in dealerships, Tom started as a lot porter. Over the years, he has worked in every department of a major dealership, including Advertising. Based on his education and innate talents, he rose to handle disputes, compliance and risk mitigation. Tom worked closely with his in-house attorneys, managing them to successfully handle thousands of cases and incidents.

Today, Tom works directly with dealership owners across Virginia and nationwide to address disputes, compliance issues, and risk exposure in a fast, thorough, and cost-effective manner.
